이름만큼이나 이쁜 산동네를 다녀왔습니다, 통영 동피랑마을.
인터넷 서핑하면서 꽤나 본, 해서 한번쯤 가보고싶었던 곳인데, 가보니 몇 발 옮기면 금세 둘러볼 수 있는 조그만 마을이었습니다. 많이 알려져서이기도 하고 주말이여서 그렇겠죠, DSLR 하나씩 차고 기웃거리는 저같은 젊은 이들이 많더군요.

골목 지나다 셔터 누르는 게 고작인걸? 변명을 해보아도, 실제 주민들은 이런 손님들이 반갑지만은 않겠구나~ 싶었습니다.

Well, we are all back safe and sound from a big camping trip out west. It will take us all months to sort through and process all the photos we took, but perhaps the best inspiration to keep that process moving is to start posting a few! So without further adieu, I’m going to rob you of today’s Chicago pic to bring you the Milky Way. I’m including here all the details on how the image was made in case you are curious and have the chance to drag your camera somewhere clear and dark.

Quite fortuitously, our camping trip occurred while the moon was rising very late – well after sunset. Moreover, we had a new moon one night – affording us a stunning view of the brilliant heavens when the weather was clear. The Milky Way was an obsession of mine during this trip, as it and so many other features of our night sky are a rare treat for us city dwellers. The campsites at Theodore Roosevelt National Park are situated amongst ancient and massive cottonwoods along the banks of the Little Missouri. Though most of the campground was huddled in their tents, lanterns burning, we stayed up a bit, watching the last bits of twilight fade from the west. There was supposed to be quite a spectacular meteor shower much later that night, but we saw several shooting stars in the span of just a few minutes waiting to see the Milky Way. Some of the larger ones would leave orange streaks in our vision across several degrees of the sky before they would explode with a flash.

At night, amongst the cottonwoods, the sky was resplendent with light, but it was so far off the earth was as pitch. The universe may hum with light, but our planet and ourselves are dark matter, illuminated only from the outside, and only when struck by the light of a very close star.

A bit about how this image was made: the original file for this image is about 56 megapixels and was composed from 14 individual frames. Each frame was shot at 50mm, f/1.8, ISO 2000, 30 seconds. I found while shooting with other lenses at f/2.8, ISO 6400, 30 seconds the Milky Way and stars were clearly visible, but I wanted an image with huge resolution and very little noise – so I thought I’d open up a stop and a half or so and drop the ISO down as low as I could. That’s Jupiter off to the left of the closer cottonwood and you can see not only the light in the tent but also the sodium vapor/tungsten light pollution from the little village at the entrance to the park, which makes for a great orange to blue gradient across the image. The title is a bit of a misnomer, but I was up a lot of the night dealing with this setup, and who can't resist titling a photo the same as a Lionel Richie song?! Earlier in the night, I shot this photograph(http://www.flickr.com/photos/5tons/4546827219/).

The photo you see here is about 3 hours worth of exposure, comprised of 24 individual, 7-minute exposures stacked on top of each other, plus a shot for noise reduction and a shot with a brighter foreground.

This center star is Polaris, the North Star, and all the others appear to be spinning around it, but are not. The circles are caused by the Earth's rotation, and Polaris is almost directly on that axis. I started this image around 2am, and finished before the sunrise. I shot about 39 images total, but the images closer to sunrise were too bright to use.

The orange light you see is the light from Monument, Oregon, which is a very small town in the middle of nowhere. The blue light you see to the right is actually the first sign of sunrise coming from the mountains to the east. In the large version, you can also see a streak across the lower half of the sky, which I believe is a satellite (or a shooting star?). The trees are all juniper trees, and you can see some native grasses mixed in with something I can't remember the name of it at the moment...

The lower-left part of the sky has weaker startrails because some clouds came in and obstructed the view for part of the exposure time. You can also see the distortion caused by my 17mm lens, and I left that uncorrected on purpose.

css-tricks.com에서 본 Build Your Own Social Home! 라는 글을 보고 따라 해본 겁니다. 2008년 6월 작성한걸 저는 이제야 신기해하며 적용해봤습니다.

트위터같은 경우 많이 사용하는 것 같아요. 트위터에 빠져 블로그는 뒷전이라고 말하는 주위분들도 있고, 블로그에 트위터 위젯이나 리트윗버튼 같은 것도 자주 볼 수 있구요. 개인적으로 플리커나 트위터는 계정만 있지 잘 활용하지 못합니다만 블로그에 따로 페이지를 만들면 좋을 듯 합니다. 방문하지 않고도 데이터를 가져와 모아볼수 있으니 티스토리나 텍스트큐브 블로그는 테터데스크같은 '첫화면꾸미기'에 같이 넣어 놓아도 좋을 듯 하네요.

우선 Build Your Own Social Home!에 나와있는 sample을 다운받으셔서 압축을 풀고 js폴더에 있는 jquery-1.2.6.min.js를 업로드 합니다.

index.html을 열어서 스크립트 부분의 주소(또는 계정)만 바꿔주시고

저도 이런 데 베이스가 없어서 어떻게 설명을 잘 못하겠습니다. 일단 다운받으셔서 index.html파일을 열어보면 생각하는 것보다 좀더 파악이 될겁니다.

아, scrnshots라는 서비스를 사용하지 않는다면 flickr를 좀 더 활용하셔도 될꺼 같아요, 저도 해보진 않았지만 flickr에 세트라고 사진을 나눌 수 있는 기능이 있어요. 위처럼 플리커에서 불러오는 데이터(사진)가 20개가 한계인 것 같은데, 이 세트별로 불러오면 좀더 많은 데이터를 활용할 수 있으니까요.
