LaTeX Tips

LaTeX 의 장점

글씨체가 이쁘다. 한 줄에 들어가는 글자수 조절이 일정해 딱 보기에 아름답게 나온다.
수식이 이쁘다. 있어 보인다.
Figure 위치 지정이 자동이다. 알아서 해준다. Word 는 텍스트 수정할 때마다 이리저리 날라다닌다.
Template 바꾸기가 쉽다. IEEE, ACM 간에 템플릿 파일만 교체해주면 바로 모양 변경 !
Bookmark 넣기가 편하다. Section, Figure, Equation, Reference 에 북마크 넣어주면 읽을 때 마우스 클릭만으로 휙휙 날아다닐수 있다.

textfloatsep 은 텍스트와 Float 간의 간격을 조절해준다. Figure 와 텍스트간의 간격 조절이 수정된다. 뒤에 숫자가 10mm plus 5mm minus 2mm 이라는건 기본 10mm 에 상황에 따라 최대 15mm 까지 최소 8mm 까지 조절하라는 뜻.

Letter Size + Embedded All Fonts

US 는 대부분 A4 대신 Letter 크기를 많이 쓰고, IEEE 는 PDF 제출시 모든 폰트가 Embedded 되어 있어야 한다.
이를 위한 DviPs 와 Ghostscript (ps2pdf) 옵션들

[Review] Comments of Publication on Computer Science 2011

석사 마지막 학기를 들어가는 시점에 있어서 석사기간동안 알게된 지식과 경험을 바탕으로 Publication 에 관한 Comments 를 남겨본다.

전공은 Computer Science, 특히 System 연구에 해당하는 글이다.

Publication 유형에는 크게 네 가지가 있다. Conference, Workshop, Journal, Magazine, Letter.

Conference : 일정한 기간을 두고 열리는 학회로 여러 사람들이 모인 자리에서 논문을 발표하고 토의한다. 특정 기간에 열리는 Event 이기 때문에 논문결과는 Accept 와 Reject 두 개로 나뉜다. 논문 결과에 대한 Review 는 보통 3~4개월 이내. 최신의 Issue 를 주로 다룬다.
Workshop : 보통 Conference 와 함께 열리지만 주요 Workshop 은 독립적으로 이루어지기도 한다. 연구의 방향성과 비전, 흐름에 대한 활발한 토의를 하는 자리로 Conference 보다 더 실험적이고 새로운 Issue 를 다루는 경우가 많다. 논문 결과에 대한 Review 는 보통 1개월 이내. Conference 와 마찬가지로 Accept 혹은 Reject 다. 논문 분량도 5~6 Page 로 보통 길지 않다. 주로 Workshop 을 통해 연구의 방향과 가능성을 평가받고 Quality 를 높여 Conference 로 이어가며, Conference 에 Submission 한 논문이 같이 열리는 Workshop 으로 내지 않겠느냐는 권유도 온다.
Magazine : 월별 혹은 분기별로 출판되는 잡지로 깊이 있는 얘기보다는 일반 사람들을 대상으로 씌여진다. 각각의 권이 주제를 가지고 출판되므로 Call For Paper에 대한 Survey 를 빠르게 해야한다. 다루는 내용에 대한 범위가 넓고 무겁지 않게 볼 수 있는 성격 탓인지 Impact Factor 도 대부분 높다. 논문 Review 는 3~6개월 이내. 분량도 4~6 Page 이내가 보통이다. 한국에서는 Magazine 을 Journal 급으로 쳐준다.
Journal : 분기별 혹은 년별로 출판되는 저널로 특정 주제에 대한 이론적이고 심도있는 내용들을 다룬다. 저널마다 항상 다루는 도메인이 정해져 있어 언제나 Submission 할 수 있다. 논문 Review 는 3~12개월 이내. 주제와 성격이 맞는다면 바로 Reject 시키는 경우는 드물고, Major Revision, Minor Revision 으로 Reviewer 의 Review 를 반영해가며 논문의 Quality 를 향상시켜 Accept 로 이어진다. Editor, Reviewer 를 만족시키는게 중요하다. 종종 Special Issue 로 Deadline 을 정해놓고 특정 주제들을 받는데, 이런 논문들에 있어서는 Reject 가 잘 떨어진다. Letter 로 나오는 저널은 분량이 짧아 보통 4 Page 이내, Proof of Concept 을 다룬다.

연구에 있어서 천천히 그리고 많은 Publication 을 위해서는

Workshop/Magazine 에 Proof of Concept 으로 Publication, 연구의 방향이 적절한지 Validation 한 후,
Extensive Evaluation 으로 Conference 에 도전,
Theoretical Explanation 을 보강하여 Journal 에 도전,

하는 것이 좋아 보인다. 물론 처음부터 Quality 높은 Paper 를 작성할 수 있다면 바로 Conference / Journal 로 가면 된다.

한 가지 염두에 두어야 하는 점은 요구 분량이 짧다고 해서 쉽게 보면 안된다. 모든 Paper 는 이전까지 나온 Paper 들과는 차별화되는 Contribution 이 반드시 한 가지 이상 있어야 한다. 이는 분량과 관계된 것이 아니다.

Conference 는 워낙 종류가 많아 나열하기는 쉽지 않다. 일단 Sponsor 가 IEEE Computer Society, IEEE Communications Society, ACM, USENIX 면 충분히 좋은 곳이다.

[Life] 2010 공채, 삼성 적성검사(SSAT)와 LG 적성검사(RPTS) 후기

태생이 엔지니어고, 몸 담고 있는 분야가 컴퓨터과학이다 보니

삼성 LG 는 필수적으로 지원하는 회사다.

요새는 왠만한 회사는 다 적성검사를 보는데 삼성, LG 도 예외는 아니다.

두 회사의 적성검사를 한 문장으로 얘기한다면,

삼성은 삼성에서 봤고, LG는 고등학교에서 봤다.

둘 다 고등학교 건물에서 봤지만,

삼성은 입구부터 시험장까지 잘 차려입은 직원들이 안내를 하고 시험감독을 했다.

각 시험장에는 인사팀으로 보이는 두 명의 시험감독이 정장을 입고 들어왔고, 복도에는 시험장 위치가 적절히 안내되어 있었다.

삼성맨들 사이에서 본 느낌이랄까.

LG는 안내직원 하나 없었고, 복도에 붙어있는 안내종이는 시험장 번호들을 일부 누락하고 있었다.

시험감독은 LG 직원으로 보이는 사람이 평상복입고 한 명 들어왔다. 사람 모자라서 착출당한 느낌이랄까.

시간 안에만 풀어야 하는데 이미 받자마자 풀고 있는 독한 지원자들이 보였고, 감독관은 유순했다.

초딩 중딩 다 오는 정보처리기능사 자격증 시험 본 느낌이랄까.

적성검사 문제야 사이코 걸러내는 성격검사랑 IQ 테스트니 그냥 그럭저럭 비슷했다.

IQ 테스트는 LG 쪽이 더 어려웠다.

삼성은 적당히 시간 안에 빡빡하게 풀 수 있었고,

LG는 언어, 수리 모두 시간이 모자랐고, 도저히 시간 내에 풀 수 있는 양이 아닌 것 같았다.

모두 같은 입장일테니, 크게 신경쓰지는 않았지만 과락이 엄청 나올 것 같은 느낌이었다.

취업과정은 회사는 지원자를, 지원자는 회사를 평가하는 과정이라 했을 때,

필기시험에 있어서는 삼성의 우세다.

물론 필자가 참석한 시험장들만의 특성이었을 수도 있지만,

지원자 입장에서는 자신이 참석한 시험장에서 회사의 이미지를 보기 때문에 LG는 더 세심한 관리가 필요할 것 같다.

3명 뽑는 KBS IT에 최종면접까지 가다니, 참 감사하다.

기술면접은 많이 해봤지만 임원면접은 처음 해보는거라, 상당히 긴장됐다.

결론부터 얘기하면 임원면접은 "잘 모르겠다."

기술 면접과 같이 100점, 50점 이런 점수를 줄 수 있는 질문들이 아니기 때문에

생각과 소신을 얘기했고, KBS 임원 분들이 원하는 "성향"이 어떠할지를 전혀 모르기 때문이다.

아마 그 정도 지위에 오르신 분들이라면 어느 정도 사람을 평가하는 기준이 있으실테고 거기에 판가름이 날 것 같다.

한가지 분명한 점은 평소에 책 좀 봐야겠다는 생각을 하게 된거다.

면접실에는 면접관 7분. 보조 2분이 앉아계셨다.

중앙에는 여성분이 앉아 계셨는데 사장님급으로 보였고, 양옆으로 본부장님들이 3분씩 앉아계셨다.

질문은 평소의 소신과 생활에 대한 질문이었다.

다음은 내가 받은 질문들이다.

자기소개 30초 이내.
즐겨보는 방송,미디어잡지와 이유는 ?

난 전자신문 밖에 보는게 없다. - _-;;

"정의란 무엇인가" 책을 읽었나 ? 공정한 사회는 어떠한 사회이고, 이를 위한 방송사의 역할은 ?
즐겨보는 뉴스 사이트는 어디인가 ? 조선일보의 색깔을 말해보아라. (집에서 조선일보를 구독해서)
방송사에 있어서 방송기술과 IT의 차이를 말해보고, 방송기술 직무로 배속되면 어떻게 하겠는가 ?
정부와 인터넷 사이에서 천안함 사태에 대한 이견이 있는데 자신의 생각은 어떠한가 ?
인터넷에 문제가 되고 있는 윤리문제와 이를 위한 해결 방안은 ?
즐겨 보는 뉴스 프로그램과 가장 감명깊게 본 KBS 프로그램은 ?

개그콘서트 - _-;;

공정한 방송을 위해 주위 직원들이 파업한다면, 파업과 업무 사이에서 어떻게 하겠는가 ?
마지막으로 하고 싶은 말.

기술면접에 비해 시간도 짧았고, 답이 없는 질문들이라 그냥 있는 그대로 얘기했다. 시간은 대략 10~15 분 정도 걸렸다.

IT 대신 방송기술로 배속해 주는건 상당히 환영할만한 일이기에 은근히 바라고도 있는데, 그런 질문이 나왔고 ㅋ

전체적으로 책 좀 읽고, 시사에 관심 좀 가졌어야 하는 것 같다.

기술면접이 전공수업이라면 임원면접은 교양수업 같은 느낌이랄까.

면접을 보고 나와도 내가 잘한건지 못한건지 도통 감을 잡을 수 없고, 재수강한다고 더 잘 할 거 같지 않은 느낌 ㅋ

KBS 본사 앞에 도착하니 1박 2일 촬영 준비를 하고 있었다.

연예인들은 못봤지만 KBS 본사 앞 계단에서의 오프닝 준비중.

KBS 입사하면 이런건 맨날 보는건가.. 생각하니 은근 욕심이 났다. ㅋ

몇 년 전에는 과제를 주고 기획서 같은것도 쓰게 했다는데,

이제 그냥 실무능력 면접만 본다고 한다.

아마도 별 소득이 없어서 그러지 않았나 싶다.

처음 한시간은 간단하게 적성검사를 보고, 바로 면접을 시작했다.

IT 는 인원이 적어 한 명씩 들어갔고, 나는 대망의 1번.

면접실에는 면접관 5분. 보조 2분이 앉아계셨다.

면접에서 받은 질문을 적기에 앞서, 어디까지나 개인적으로 받은 질문임을 밝혀둔다.

즉, 어디서나 마찬가지지만 면접은, 몇몇 공통질문을 제외하곤 응시자가 한 말을 이용해서 질문을 한다.

구글같은데서 보는 알고리즘 문제를 던지는 기술면접이 아니라면 삼성, LG 어디나 마찬가지다.

다음은 내가 받은 질문들이다.

면접관 분은 모든 질문에 대해 간단하게 1분 내에 답해달라고 요구하셨다.

자기소개 1분 이내. 자기소개에서 하는 말과 단어가 내가 받는 질문이 된다.
KBS 에게 있어서 IT 란 ?
사회 봉사활동에 대한 생각과 봉사경험에 대해 말해보세요.
N Factorial 을 Recursion 방식을 이용해서 구현하는 방법을 설명해 보세요. For 문을 사용하는 방법은 ?
방송기술과 IT 기술이 융합된 사례를 제시해보세요.
서버 가상화와 클라우드 컴퓨팅에 대해 설명해보세요.
OSI 7 계층에 대해 설명해보세요.
통신기술과 관련된 개발경험을 얘기해보세요.

문제를 해결하는 방법 중에 하나를 들어 설명해 보세요.

다른 회사에 지원했다면 모두 합격할 경우 어디를 갈 계획인가요.

이 질문에 대해 솔직하게 KBS는 두번째라고 대답했다. KBS가 참 좋아보여서 지금 생각하면 좀 아쉽기도 한데, 3명 밖에 뽑지 않는 자리이기 때문에 무조건 KBS에 올거라는 입에 발린 말을 안 한건 잘한것 같다.

마지막으로 하고 싶은 말.

아예 모르는 기술적 단어들은 관련된 내용에 Fundamental 한 얘기들을 했다. 그 외에는 그럭저럭. 시간은 대략 15~20 분 정도 걸렸다.

IT 를 보조로 여기는 기업이기 때문에 매우 전문적인 단어나 기술적 설명을 요구하지는 않았다.

1번이라 그랬는지는 몰라도 분위기도 편하게 해 주시고, 시간도 여유롭게 사용한 것 같다.

아무래도 가장 큰 영향을 미칠 것 같은 부분은 KBS가 2순위라고 한 얘기가 아닐까 싶다. 일편단심 민들레를 연기할까 했지만 솔직한 내 마음이니까.. 설사 이 부분에서 점수가 깍인다 해도 어쩔수 없는 것 같다.

마지막으로 나갈 때 면접관 한 분이 "참 차분하고 침착하면서도 솔직하네요." 라고 한 말이 기억에 남는다. ㅋ

결과야 어찌되었든, 예전부터 느낀거지만 질문을 던지고 대답한다는 것, 면접관은 지원자를 지원자는 회사를 평가한다는 점에서, 면접은 참 재미있는 시간이다. ㅋ

KBS 2010 신입사원 공채 - IT 분야 필기시험

올해는 무려 IT 분야에서 3 명을 뽑아주는 KBS.

입실 8시 30분으로 공지떠서 아침에 부랴부랴 갔더니 막상 시험은 9시부터 시작이란다.

3 명 뽑는데 약 130 여명이 필기합격자였다. 그러나 교실을 가보니 절반 정도만 시험을 보러 왔으니 일단 70 여명은 제낀 셈이다. ㅋ

시험은 2교시 논술시간과 컴퓨터공학시간으로 나뉘어서 봤다.

컴퓨터공학 문제는 여전한 듯 했다.

그래도 이전보다는 분야가 다양해진듯 하다.

객관식 30문제, 주관식 10문제로 데이터베이스, 네트워크, 알고리즘, 소프트웨어 공학이다.

딱 정보처리기사 분야다. 이런 시험 볼 때마다 항상 느끼는 거지만 소프트웨어 공학은 학부 때 수업을 들어둘걸 그랬다.

이제 알고리즘도 조금 비중이 생겼는지 Heap Sort, Selection Sort, Quick Sort 는 다 알아야 했다.

비중이 있는 부분은 90분간 보는 논술문제에 있는 것 같다.

논술은 일반논술(75점)과 시사교양약술(25점)으로 구성되어 있었다.

일반논술 문제는 다음과 같다.

스마트 TV 출현에 따른 방송미디어 환경 시장의 변화와 개인에게 미치는 영향, KBS의 대응전략을 논술하시오.

쌍방향TV, IPTV, 이번엔 스마트TV. 구글이 소니랑 손잡고 여기저기서 홍보중이니 방송국도 긴장상태인가 보다. 방송미디어 시장의 변화가 있을 것은 분명하니 IT 담당자로써 KBS의 수익성 향상을 이끌 수 있는 전략을 내놓을 수 있는지가 주요 쟁점일 것 같다.

스마트TV에 대한 특징을 나열한 후,

개인의 방송 콘텐츠 이용의 변화를 예측하고,

이를 위한 방송국의 대응전략이 당연한 흐름으로 보인다.

흐름은 맞게 썼는데, 스마트TV가 인터넷이 결합된 것이 주요 키워드인지 몰라 다른 특징, 쌍방향 참여, 사용자 컨텍스트 인지, 모바일 기기와의 유기적 연결로 주욱 서술하였다. 서술한 내용을 자세히 언급하려 했는데 위키백과를 찾아보니 이건 모... 핀트가 어긋났다. 관심있으신 분들은 직접 찾아보시라.

시사교양약술 문제는 주어진 단어에 대한 설명을 요하는 문제였다.

주어진 단어는,

Tethering : 스마트폰 쓰는 사람 중에 이 단어 모르는 사람이 있을까.
Software as a Service : 오우, 전공으로 하는 교수님도 제대로 정의내리지 못하는 단어가 나오다니.
Semantic Web : 인터넷 컴퓨팅 방 사람들이 왔으면 잘 썼겠다.
House Poor : 들어갈 때 학원에서 주어준 예상문제집에 있던 단어다. 9시까지 시간 남아서 화장실 가서 봤는데 덕분에 맞췄다.
Leniency : 모르는 건 넘어가자. 시사는 정말 약하다. 찾아보니 자진신고 제재감면, 담합한거 신고한 넘은 벌금 덜 물리는 거란다.

이번에도 그냥 저냥 쓰고 나왔다. 컴퓨터공학은 고만고만하고 논술은 쓰다가 지쳐서 마무리된다. 평소에 펜으로 90분 동안 뭘 써봤어야 말이지. 시험보러 온 여자들이 아나운서 지망인건지 기자 지망인건지 다들 샤방샤방하니 성형미인 같은 포스인건 참 좋더라~

(추가 2010.09.07) 믿어지진 않지만, 합격자 15명내에 들었다. 아무래도 모바일 플랫폼과의 연결을 자세하게 쓴 것을 흥미롭게 여긴걸까.

3명 뽑으니 12명만 제끼면 최종합격인건가... 근데 도통 3차 실무능력평가 면접에 대한 정보가 없다. - _-;;

일정대로 하면 120분 동안 8명 면접을 보니 한명당 약 15분. 면접치고는 꽤나 긴 시간인데...

으으.. 멀 준비해가야 하는거지.. 필기합격되니 KBS 욕심 생기는데.. 후아~

Div 2, Level 1 - ColorfulTilesEasy

First, find a contiguous sub-string that contains one character. Then, we can always choose one color which is not duplicated to adjacent tiles of contiguous sub-string since we have four colors. Minimal number of tiles we must change is half of length of contiguous sub-string.
Complexity : O(n), where n is length of room, up to 10.

Div 2, Level 2, Div 1, Level 1 - PotatoGame

The problem has simple observation, but it was hidden. Also, test case induces to make a incorrect solution. It seems to be solved by using remainder of 4, but actual magic number is 5.
We can easily find the game result. Let's define d[n] is the game result when the remain number is n, 0 is lose and 1 is win. Obviously, d[0] is 0 because player cannot choose any number. When the remain number is n, the next remain number is i = \{ n-4^k | k \geq 0 \mbox{ and } n-4^k \geq 0 \}. Since each player plays optimally, the player will will if one of d[i] is losing number, otherwise if all d[i] is winning number, the player will lose. The equation is as follows.

However, since n will be between 1 and 1,000,000,000 (10^9), we cannot make a array in 64MB memory. We should generalize a formula without memoization. Luckily, you can easily find simple rule if you write down the game result until 20~30. Following figure is example of generating game result between 0 and 256.
The pattern of 01011 is repeated. Thus, remainder of 5 is used to solve it as follows.

Div 2, Level 3 - RectangularIsland

Comments on Round

SRM 472 was most difficult round in recent SRMs. No one solved "RectangularIsland" (level 3 problem) in div 2, and only 141 solved "PotatoGame" (level 2 problem). Div 1 was no exception. Only 32 and 12 users solved "TwoSidedCards" and "ColorfulTiles", respectively. A lot of users had obtained scores in challenge phase. 380 challenges were successful in div 2. This is 25% of submitted codes. In case of "PotatoGame", 52% of codes have been successfully challenged and 24% have been failed system test. (It means that 76% of codes can be challenged !!) Similarly, 31% of codes could not pass challenge phase in div 1.
I learned simple technique to find observation of problem. In my case, I just wrote down the case of "PotatoGame" between 0 to 16, and failed to find simple observation. If I wrote down until 20 or 25, I may find it (maybe). Instead of hand-writing, a lot of coders printed out the result of sub-problem in their codes, for example, between 0 to 100. This is better than hand-writing. =) "PotatoGame" is one of good example. =) Anyone can easily find simple rule, if they saw number of sequence in above figure.
I got a friend in this SRM. =) But we cannot meet in next SRM because she was ranked 4 and promoted to div 1. We exchanged gtalk id, and parted, pledging to meet in next next SRM. =) I hope to be a good friend. =)

Division 2, Level 1 - PrimeContainers, Simulation

N 을 2 로 나눠가며 Prime Number 인지 아닌지 확인하면 되는 Simulation 문제
Complexity : O(\sqrt{N}\log{N}), where N is up to 1,000,000

Division 2, Level 2 - EllysPlaylists, Breadth First Search

각 Song 을 Node 라 생각하고 Node 간의 연결성을 먼저 만들어둔다. Node i and j is connected, if last sub-string (length 3) of i-th song title is equal to first sub-string (length 3) of j-th song title.
출발점이 다르다면 Unique 한 List 이므로, 모든 Node 의 Count 1 을 해두고, 각 Node 에서 갈 수 있는 모든 Node 에 대해 현재 Count 를 더해준다.
K 번 간 이후에, 각 Node 에 남아있는 Count 의 Sum 이 답이 된다.
Complexity : O(KE) = O(KN^2), where K is length of playlists, up to 1000, E is number of edge, and N is number of songs, up to 50.

Division 2, Level 3 - Thirteen, Breadth First Search

Breadth First Search (BFS) 를 이용한 Shortest Path 를 찾는 문제다. 한 가지 추가된 Constraint 는 매 순간 Travel Time 이 13 으로 나누어지면 갈 수 없다는 것이다. 각 Node 를 13 개로 나누면 쉽게 해결된다. Node i-k 는 i 번째 Node 에서 Travel Time % 13 = k 일 때 Minimum Travel Time 으로 정의하고, BFS 를 하면 된다.
Complexity : O(K(E+N)) = O(KN^2), where K is 13, E is number of edges, N is number of nodes, up to 50

Division 1, Level 1 - PrimeSequences

Division 2, Level 1 에서 했던 Prime Number 확인 방법으로는 2 Seconds 안에 답을 구할 수 없다. N 이 10,000,000 까지로 64MB 메모리 안에 Array 로 가능한 범위이므로 Sieve of Eratosthenes 방법을 이용해 모든 Prime Number 를 체크해놓고 구해야 한다.
