Getting Ready For Kindergarten

Kindergarten is the next big step for you and your child. Some of ways you can prepare for this exciting new journey includes setting routines, visiting the local school, and attending your preschool's "Transition to Kindergarten" workshop. Having a successful entry into kindergarten will help your child have a positive attitude about school and learning.

To get your child ready for kindergarten, you could:

Read books about starting kindergarten.
Talk enthusiastically with your child about starting kindergarten.
Ask your child how they feel about starting kindergarten. Reassure any feelings of anxiety or fear.
Plan for your child to visit his or her new school.
Tell your child about the kinds of work he or she will be doing in kindergarten; letter recognition, recognize common sight words, identify coins and their value, measurement
Talk about and practice new routines; drop off, pick up, lunch time etc.
Spend extra time on the first day of school, but do not "drag out" saying goodbye.
Have your child practice writing their name and address.
Attend any school-sponsored orientations to get up-to-date information on your child's kindergarten program.
Tell your child how much you love them!

We are committed to bringing the highest quality early childhood care and education program to all children 3-4 in Glendale, Burbank & La Crescenta.

Recently, Sharon LAUP Preschool partnered with the Los Angeles Universal Preschool (LAUP) to create a wonderful preschool program for all preschool age children in the Los Angeles County. Los Angeles Universal Preschool (LAUP) is a dynamic new public benefit corporation created in 2004 and funded by First 5 LA the commission established by proposition 10. LAUP's goal is to make voluntary, high-quality preschool available to every four-year-old child in Los Angeles Country, regardless of his/her family's Income, by 2016.

LAUP is guided by a 10-year Master Plan developed by hundreds of educators, parents, government officials, and business and community leaders. Building on this plan, LAUP is bringing resources together from across the county in support of early childhood education.

Research shows that children who attend quality preschool programs are more likely to succeed, in school and beyond, than those who do not. Currently in Los Angeles County, only half of our four-year olds have access to any preschool at all. LAUP is funding the creation of new high-quality programs in areas that need them most and providing new resources to existing programs to help Improve quality. LAUP is proud to be working in partnership with government and the private sector to address community needs. 　

Parents of children in LAUP classrooms can feel confident that their four-year olds are in preschool programs that have been evaluated for quality. LAUP carefully reviews teacher qualification, class sizes and adult/child ratios, and the environment in which our children explore and learn. All LAUP programs welcome parents into the classroom as active and engaged partners in their child's preschool experience.

At LAUP, we're doing our part to support children and their families in transitioning to kindergarten through:

Curriculum
A high quality preschool program should have a well articulated curriculum to guide instructional practice and to ensure that children learn developmentally appropriate activities to get them ready for kindergarten. LAUP supports providers in using a curriculum that is research based and one that offers opportunities for children to learn.

We will be making our valentines bags to hold the valentines brought in for our valentine exchange.

Please have your child bring in 15 valentines with NO names on the front.
They should sign the inside of the valentine
with their name (or they can draw on the card and you can sign their name).

We will nave a time where each child will be able to put a valentine in each bag. I know that means they will put one in their own bag, but from my experience they actually really like that! Thanks..

Sleep requirements vary from one child to another, and they change as the child grows. This dynamic is true for naps too.

Newborn infants will sleep and wake through the day and night. At 3 or 4 months of age, babies will need several naps during the day – totaling about five hours of daytime sleep.

Six-month-olds usually need morning and afternoon naps. Each one usually lasts an hour or two. A 1-year-old may continue this pattern, though the naps may shorten.

Usually well before they are 2, children will stop napping in the morning. Until at least 4, they will still need their afternoon nap, and some children will nap until they are 5.

Sometimes children need help adjusting their nap times. Whenever you’re trying to change your child’s sleep schedule, plan on doing so gradually. Change nap times by only about 15 minutes (earlier or later) each day. Little by little, your child’s body clock will adjust.

Infants who wake up very early in the morning and then nap later in the morning may be saving up nighttime sleep for the day. You will want to help your child stay awake for longer in the morning, pushing his nap back to a later hour. This approach should help him stop waking up so early.

Children between age 1 and 2 may have trouble sleeping at night if they continue to nap in the morning. If so, it can be helpful to make the morning nap later and the afternoon nap earlier. Eventually the morning nap will disappear, and the afternoon nap will be enough.

A child who has trouble falling asleep at night or who wakes up during the night may be overtired. This child might sleep better at night if he had a daytime nap. A child who sleeps well but won’t go to bed at a reasonable time may need to nap earlier in the afternoon, or he may be ready to stop napping.

When children have outgrown their afternoon naps, they will still need some regular times in their daily rhythm to slow down. After lunch, a child who no longer naps can still benefit from a quiet time to “read” or play alone with toys such as puzzles that demand little physical activity. (Parents benefit too!)

Although your child may resist, you can talk about this rest period positively as his time to recharge and get ready for an exciting afternoon.

To Help a Child Nap

Strange as it may seem, a well-rested child usually has an easier time falling asleep than a tired one. Be sure that bedtimes are regular, and early enough.
Never use a nap as a threat or a punishment. Any child will resist a nap when it is presented in a negative way.
Prepare the child in advance for nap time. When lunch begins, remind him that nap time is coming soon. But talk about it positively, as a time to relax, read a story and rest.
Remove the child from all activities. Use his bedroom or a quiet place, with curtains shut. If he thinks something exciting is going on at the same time somewhere else, an active child is bound to want to be there instead. TV and videos are likely to excite the child.
Use a child’s bedtime rituals – a cuddle, a story, a lullaby. Encourage him to comfort himself with his lovey or his thumb.

LAUP 의 2가지 Requirement 에 대해 안내해 드립니다.

1.
LAUP 클래스 교사들의 트레이닝을 위해 매월 마지막 날은 Minimum Day 로 정해져 있습니다.

Minimum Day에는 Part-Time으로 LAUP 클래스만 하는 학생들은 수업을 하지 않으며,

Full-Time 으로 LAUP 클래스를 하는 학생들은 12시까지 오전수업만 진행하오니, 점심을 먹은 후 12시에 픽업을 해주셔야 합니다.
(만일 사정상 미리말씀 하시면 Daycare 할수도있습니다 ( extra Fee )

(Minimum Day는 laup / 학교 사정에 의해 날짜가 변경될 수도 있습니다. 만일 변경될 경우에는 사전에 미리 알려드립니다.)

2.
LAUP 에 참여하시는 모든 학부모님들은 Parents' Involve Class 를 2번 참여해 주셔야 합니다.

만일 직접 시간을 내서 클래스를 참여해 주시기 어려운 학부모님들은 교육 기자재들을 도네이션 해주셔도 됩니다.

자세한 사항은 교사에게 문의해 주시기 바랍니다.

* MINIMUMDAY 12:00 PM - EVERYMONTH LAST DAY

* LAUP Parttime laup no school minimumday

* TEACHER'S TRANING DAY MINIMUM DAY LAUP 교사들 준비 를 위한
TEACHRE'S TRAING DAY 이므로 LAUP CALSS
12:00 AFTER LUNCH PICK 하셔야합니다 ( Or not $ 20 daycare fee extra pay )
( 혹시라도 학교사정으로 날짜가 바뀔수도있다 알려드리면서,,)
