국가보안법이 제정된지 올해로 64년째입니다. 인간의 기본권인 정치, 사상의 자유를 말살하는 국가보안법을 “자유민주주의” 세력이라고 스스로를 칭하는 자들이 여전히 목숨을 걸고 옹호하고 있습니다. 수많은 이들이 64년의 역사 속에서 국가보안법의 피해를 입었습니다. “국격”을 자랑하는 이명박 정부에서도 그것은 여전합니다. 풍자나 개그 때문에 감옥에 갇혔더라라는 옛 이야기는 이 시대에도 “Fact"입니다. 트위터에서 북한의 트위터를 RT(순화어: 이적표현물 취득 반포)하고, 북한과 3대 세습을 소재로 한 농담(순화어: 이적표현물 직접 작성 반포)을 썼다는 이유로 동네 사진사 박정근이 구속되었습니다.

이 사건을 계기로 "국가보안법불복종행동"이라는 이름 아래 34명의 사람들이 모였습니다. 국가보안법불복종행동은 1월 30일 이후 현재까지 을지로, 명동, 이대, 홍대, 신촌, 종로, 광화문, 대한문, 보신각, 대학로, 대검찰청, 국회앞을 돌며 사상과 표현의 자유를 원천통제하는 국가보안법의 폭력성을 고발하는 캠페인들을 벌여왔습니다.

2주차 수요일인 8일 부터는, 2호선 지하철을 따라 릴레이 1인 시위를 출발할 예정입니다. 지하철 대장정 일정표를 아래에 첨부합니다.

아무도 피할 수 없는,
빠르건 느리건 결국 우리에게 도달하는 유일한 편지,

영악하고 늙었다.

한마디로,

개새끼의 세대다.

개새끼라기보다는, 개객끼라고 해야겠지.

시인이 어때요, 라고 물으면,
그걸 왜 내게 물어요, 라고 답한다

이를테면 선수를 빼앗긴 셈이었다. 멈칫하는 사이 그가 먼저 물어왔다.

그의 물음은, 사실은 내가 그에게 물으려던 것이었다. 다만 묻지 않아도 알 것 같았고, 말하지 않아도 들릴 것 같아서 꺼내지 않았을 뿐.

그의 물음은 이상하게도 울음처럼 들려서, 묻는 건지 우는 건지 헷갈렸다. 그래서인지 엉뚱한 대답을, “그걸 왜 내게 묻느냐”는 어정쩡한 반문을 던지고 말았다.

시인이 어때요, 라고 묻는데, 그걸 왜 내게 물어요, 라고 답하다니. 엉터리 시인의 엉터리 친구.

살인과도 같은 해고를 멈추라며 35미터 크레인 위에 스스로를 가두고 309일을 목 놓아 외친 끝에 김진숙 지도위원이 살아 내려왔던 11월의 어느날, 송경동이 전화를 걸어왔다. 전화기에 ‘여섯번째 송경동’이라는 이름이 떴다.

지난 몇 년, 내 전화번호가 한 번 바뀌는 사이, 그의 전화번호는 여섯 번이나 바뀌었다. 그럴 수밖에. 그는 현상수배범이었으니까.

크레인에 매달린 김진숙을 지키기 위해 지상의 싸움을 선동한 죄, 절망의 시대에 감히 희망을 떠벌린 죄, 고상하게 시 나부랭이나 끼적댈 일이지 함부로 성명서를 써댄 죄가 결코 작지 않았다. 그의 죄목은 단박에 작성된 것이 아니다. 대추리에서 그가 벌인 극렬행동을 떠올리자. 콜트기타 해고노동자를 뭐라 선동했던가. 용산참사 철거민에게 내민 연대의 감언이설은 어떻고. 기륭전자 해고노동자를 쓸어버리려던 포클레인을 막아서고 그마저 점거해버린 간악한 용역집행방해죄는 사장님을 얼마나 슬프게 했던가. 반성은커녕 희망버스를 주동하고, 국가기간산업육성에 불철주야 매진하시는 한진중공업 회장님을 모욕했다. 자본님의 준엄한 해고칼춤에 가래침을 뱉었다.

12월, 철창에 갇히기 전에도 그는 갇혀 지냈다. 김진숙이 35미터 공중에 떠 있을 때, 그 또한 35미터가 넘는 서울의 어떤 건물에 갇혀 생활했다. 출두하기 전날 밤, 거기서 그를 만났다. 뜻밖에도 돈에 파묻혀 있었다.

‘희망버스 주유비’라 적힌 모금함에서 쏟아진 백원짜리, 천원짜리, 만원짜리를 침 발라가며 세고 있었다. 돈 때 묻은 시인, 퉁퉁 부은 그의 더러운 발목이 눈을 붙잡았다. 포클레인에서 떨어져 바스라졌던 발목이었다. 이튿날 그는 철창에 갇혔다. 구속영장실질심사를 청구했지만, 실질적인 도움이 되지 않았다. 그는 이제 전화하지 않는다. 나도 만나러 가지 않는다. 어때요, 라고 물어오면, 그걸 왜 내게 물어요, 라고 답할 자신이 없다.

시인은 말을 읽어주는 사람이 아니라 말을 보여주는 사람이다. 시인은 지나간 말로, 다가올 말을 보여준다. 보이는 말, 그것이 시다. 송경동은 자신이 내뱉은 어제와 오늘의 말로, 감옥에 갇힐 내일의 말을 보여주었고, 그 말을 가두는 국가를, 쇠창살이 되어버린 우리들을 이렇게, 보여주고 있다.

이 집은 오래 전에 사라졌다.

내가 그 앞에 서 있을 때도 집은 이미 반파를 넘어 사실상 완파된 채였다.

저 집이 멀쩡했을 때,

사람들이 그 안에서 저마다의 단란복잡한 삶을 어찌어찌 이어가고 있을 때,

대문 위에 걸린 가로등은 산동네 어둔 길을 노랗게 밝혔을 테지....

집은 이미 오래 전에 사라졌고,

저 가로등마저 산산이 부서졌는데,

나는 이제야 저 집을 눈 앞에 꺼낸다.

집은 진즉 사라졌는데,

사진 안에서 집은 앙상하게, 나를 만났던 그 모습으로 버티고 있다.

사라진 많은 것들이,

여전히 사진 안에서 버틴다.

사라진 많은 이들이,

여전히 마음 안에서 버틴다.

The exhibition project Demonstrations. Making Normative Orders is a cooperation between the Frankfurter Kunstverein and the Cluster of Excellence “The Formation of Normative Orders” at Goethe University Frankfurt. The starting point is the interdisciplinary approach to and analysis of aesthetic responses to the idea of the ‘demonstration’ through a range of media, including historical and contemporary paintings, graphic works, photographs, installations, videos, sound pieces as well as performances. Rather than focusing on specific conflict situations, the exhibition presents a diversity of artist responses to the topic and conveys how political events resonate in the aesthetics of works of art.

Historical paintings and graphic works on view include scenes of homage and coronations as demonstrations of power, outstanding examples of the protest movement of the Vormärz period, and representations of the events of the March Revolution of 1848 and the first German National Assembly. These works are placed in dialogue and correspondence with themes addressed by contemporary artists. The exhibition specifically explores the elements of movement and blockade, showing and representation, doubt and legitimization.

An important part of the exhibition will be the numerous performances to be carried out at the Frankfurter Kunstverein or in the Frankfurt public space with the aim of examining rituals, behavioural codices and demonstration forms, or generating unaccustomed types of movement in the public realm. All of the performances will bear a close relationship to the works on view in the exhibition. Apart from the presentation of more than forty international artistic positions in the exhibition and performance parts, the project will also encompass an extensive framework programme of discussions in which numerous humanities scholars and social scientists working within the framework of the Cluster of Excellence will participate.
