1) broken은 물질적으로 손해, 손상을 입었을 때 쓰고 no working은 기능이 제대로 작동하지 않을 때 쓴다.

1) bring은 '가져오다', take는 '가져가다'라는 뜻이다.

2) '어디에 가서 가져오다'고 할 때는 fetch를 쓴다.

2) '버스를 잘못 탔다'고 할 때도 in the wrong bus가 아니라 on the wrong bus라고 한다.

1) 사람이나 장소 혹은 번호로 전화할 때는 to를 쓰지 않고 바로 목적어를 쓴다.

2) '어떤 사람에게 어떤 번호로 전화하다'고 할 때는 at이나 on을 쓴다. 'call + 사람 + at(on) 번호'라는 형식으로    쓴다.

3) '-을 -으로 부르다'고 할 때는 as 없이 바로 목적어 두 개를 연이어 쓴다.

calm

1) calm은 최근에 시끄러웠거나 어떤 소동이 있고 난 후에 조용한 이라는 뜻을 갖고 일반적으로 '조용한'은 quiet나 peaceful을 쓴다.

car

1) '차에 타다'는 get in(into), '내리다'는 get out of를 쓴다.

care

1) care는 셀 수 없는 명사이므로 관사를 쓰지 않는다.

2) '돌보다(look after)'의 뜻으로 쓸 때는 take care of를 쓰고 '조심하다(be careful)'의 뜻으로 쓸 때는 take care + to부정사를 쓴다.

3) careful은 특별한 주의를 기울임으로써 사고나 실수 혹은 손해 등을 피할 수 있을 때 쓴다. 반면에 누군가에게 할 것을 잊지 않도록 하거나 어떤 것을 살펴봐야하는 것을 잊지 않도록 할 때는 make sure을 쓴다.

1) 비난하다고 할 때는 'blame + 사람' 혹은 'blame + 사물 + on 사람'으로 쓴다.

1) ago는 말하는 순간인 지금부터 전이라는 뜻이고 before는 과거의 어느 때 그 이전(before 'then' a time in the past)를 뜻한다.

1) '-초에' 혹은 '-처음'이라고 할 때는 at the beginning을 쓰지 in을 쓰지 않는다.

2) begin + inf. 무의지적으로 하기시작하다

1) believe in은 종교와 같은 어떤 믿음, 생각으로서 어떤 것을 믿는다는 말이고 believe는 객관적으로 사실에 대해 쓴다. 따라서 보거나 들은 것을 믿을 수 없다고 할 때는 in을 쓸 수 없다.

2) 굳게 믿는다고 할 때는 deeply가 아니라 firmly, strongly, sincerely, truly를 쓴다.

1) below는 어떤 것보다 낮은 곳에 있는 것을 말하며 under는 덮혀있거나 접촉해 있는 어떤 것 바로 아래를 말한다.

2) 어떤 글에서 아래에 있는 어떤 것이라고 쓸 때는 명사 뒤에 below를 써야한다. 명사 앞에 쓰면 안 된다. 반면에 above는 명사 앞이나 뒤, 어느 곳이나 가능하다.

1) base는 어떤 것의 주된 부분을 말하고 basis는 어떤 것이 발전(발달하거나 만들어질 수 있는 바탕이 되는 매우 중요한 부분을 말한다.

bear

1) bear는 애기를 낳는 물리적인 행위를 말한다. 따라서 bear의 주어는 언제나 여자다. 반면에 가족 중 아이의 수나 앞으로 가질 자식의 수를 말할 때는 have를 쓴다.

2) '참을 수 없다'고 할 때는 can't bear it처럼 반드시 it을 써야한다.
